Description:
delman has reported a vulnerability in psqlodbc, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) and potentially compromise a vulnerable system.

The vulnerability is reportedly caused due to a boundary error within the "PGAPI_Connect()" function of the ODBC driver when writing usernames and passwords into internal data structures. This can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow via an overly long string (about 10,000 bytes) passed to an affected application.

Successful exploitation crashes applications using the vulnerable ODBC driver. This can e.g. crash the Apache web server by passing malicious input in a form field of a PHP script. Execution of arbitrary code may potentially also be possible, but has not been proven.

The vulnerability has been reported in version 07.03.0200. Prior versions may also be affected.

Solution:
Grant only trusted users access to applications using the vulnerable ODBC driver and allowing arbitrary input to be passed as user credentials.

Use another product.
